BETA UNIT - OFFSHORE
The Beta Unit consists of three platforms; the Elly, Ellen, and Eureka, which are located 10 miles offshore southern California in Federal waters.
The Beta Unit was originally estimated to have 590 MMBbls of
oil in place. To date, approximately 81 MMBbls of oil have been produced.

Producing Characteristics of Beta
Crude: 14º API, 4% sulfur, 20-40ppm H2S levels, 4 mole% CO2
All wells artificially lifted (ESP’s or hydraulic); several with concentric string for water injection assist for lift of low rate or heavier gravity wells
Commingled, multi-zone, Cased Hole Gravel Packed completions
Fluid Dehydration/processing: On platform (Elly)
Energy: in-field natural gas and purchased diesel
Waterflood for pressure maintenance
Beta Unit Improved Oil Recovery Plan
Beta has 595 Million Barrels (MMbbl) of Original Oil-in-Place with an average API gravity of 14º.
The 14ºAPI gravity crude oil at 140ºF has a high in situ oil viscosity.
Beta low (13.7%) Recovery Efficiency is impaired by its high in situ oil viscosity.
Higher temperatures result in lower viscosities & Higher recovery efficiencies
From a technical standpoint, a 50ºF – 100ºF increase in reservoir temperature could improve the Recovery Efficiency by 5%-20% of the OOIP (30-120 MMbbl)
